HOW TO HEAL LEAKY GUT
4 TIPS TO FEELING BETTER
Seriously, when I heard about leaky gut syndrome, I know I fought back a little thinking naw, my belly isn’t that bad! Well, I was wrong.
I had almost every symptom and the biggest symptom I was suffering from was feeling like crap. I mean think about it. You have stuff floating around in your belly that shouldn’t be there. Of course I felt bad!
What Is Leaky Gut?
Picture for a moment the photos we see of our intestines. There is a lining. The job of that lining is to keep the digestive system stuff separate from the rest of our body.
You know, the gross broken down food and other things stuff.
When that lining breaks down, the bad stuff is then released into our body and goes places it shouldn’t. That’s why I opened this post with eww Lol.
How Does It Occur?
Simply put, it generally occurs due to the foods we eat. Our bodies cannot process a lot of foods that we are consuming.
Grains are a top contender here, both whole and refined. They are found in many of the foods we eat including wheat bread, oatmeal and more.
They tear the lining of our intestines as we cannot properly digest them and over time, we can get leaky gut.
What Are The Symptoms Of Leaky Gut?
When I saw the symptoms, I had almost every single one of them! Seriously I was shocked.
I was also surprised to learn that there are symptoms that don’t necessarily occur in the gut. Say what? Yeah I thought that was weird too but it’s true.
Some of them include but are not limited to:
- Bloating
- Gas
- Eczema
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Weight gain
- Migraines
- Food allergies
- Anxiety
How Do You Heal Leaky Gut?
Here are just a few examples that will help you heal leaky gut syndrome
- Start eating foods that your body can break down more easily. Some examples are eating yogurt, fermented foods, avocados, and healthy veggies. This also means slowing down or eliminating foods such as grains, processed foods, cookies, pasta, etc. If you want to feel better, do your best to stay away from those foods until you’re fully healed.
- Manage your stress levels. This one alone is HUGE on so many levels. First, stress can kill. Second, many people will combat stress with eating unhealthy foods because they taste good and “relieve” the stress at that time. But in all reality, stress causes inflammation in our bodies and when there is inflammation, our body will focus on healing that and not our gut.
- Follow a Candida Friendly lifestyle. This one by far has attributed to SO many health changes of my own! In a matter of months, I felt amazingly better and I’m happy to say that I no longer suffer from the symptoms above! Managing the types of foods you eat will do so much good for your body you’d be surprised!
- Take probiotics and gut healing supplements. Probiotics are really important when you’re healing your gut. One of the best gut healing agents is L-Glutamine. This one will help rebuild and heal the intestinal lining of your digestive tract.
Do I Live Like This Forever?
Well, I’m not a doctor but in my personal opinion, once you FEEL the difference, you probably won’t want to go back! I know I didn’t.
Does that mean that you can’t eat out or have an occasional treat from the refrain list? That is up to you!
You didn’t get leaky gut overnight so it’s probably safe to say that if you make a less than stellar food choice then it won’t affect you right away.
However, there are instances where food allergies are discovered so you may try these foods later and realize that you can’t have them anymore. Almonds, well any tree nut, are one for me so I avoid them altogether.
Closing Thoughts…..
Keep in mind that we have the power to heal our bodies and for most symptoms, we can heal through food. That means good and bad choices.
Don’t beat yourself up if you find yourself slipping but at the same time, keep your end goal at the forefront of your mind always.
You WANT to feel better. Hell, for some of us we HAVE to feel better. It sucks to feel like crap. Imagine changing a few habits that lead to a whole new better you.
In the end, it’s totally worth it <3 Here’s to your health!
Until the next time, go out and Attain Your Awesome!
